Aussie acting sensation Eric Bana, who plays Bruce Banner (the scientist who famously morphs into the incredible Hulk when enraged) in Ang Lee's blockbuster "Hulk", recently made pilgrimage to the Ducati factory in Bologna. Bana, who has long had a love for Ducati motorcycles, took a tour of the Ducati Museum, where he quickly spotted and admired Doug Polen's 1991 World Champion winning 888 Superbike.

Eric's garage back in Oz holds a classic 888 Superbike and a Ducati Monster 900. But they don't stay in the garage for long - Bana is a serious and accomplished rider who gets his kicks burning rubber on the track with a couple mates. Bana ended the day with a tour of the Ducati assembly line and introduction to the secrets of the Ducati Corse workshop. He came away more than a little impressed by the time and craftsmanship that goes into each and every Ducati. (Source: Ducati.com)

Eric Bana Joins Shell Helix Racing
Top
Hollywood rev-head Eric Bana today joined the Shell Helix Racing team as its official patron for the 2003 season. Eric will attend selected rounds this year, beginning this weekend at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, and will take an active role within the team over the race weekend. Born and bred in Melbourne, Eric has been a fan of V8 Supercars, and in particular, Dick Johnson Racing, for many years.
"As a kid, Dick Johnson was my hero and to now be part of undoubtedly Australia's premier motorsport team is an absolute honour," Eric said.
"You won't catch me sipping Chardonnay with the corporates on race weekend, I'll be in the pits with the boys cleaning tyres!," he joked.
No stranger to life in the fast lane having driven in Targa Tasmania and the Adelaide Classic, Bana is genuinely excited at the prospect of spending his free time this year at the track with the Shell Helix Racing team.
"A few years ago I was lucky enough to have a stomach-twisting ride with Dick in the EL around Sandown and it gave me a real taste for the sport, I can't wait to feel that again in the new Shell Helix Racing BA Falcon."
Shell Helix Racing owner Dick Johnson reciprocated the praise.
"Normally associations between Hollywood stars and race teams is limited to the glitzy world of F1 and Indy Car, it's a credit to Eric that even after his new found star status, he hasn't forgotten where he's from."
"I've been a fan of Eric's from the days of 'Full Frontal'I just wish we had him around the team last year because we certainly could have used his sense of humour in the pits after some of our more forgettable rounds," Dick mused.
A relative unknown to American audiences, Bana dominated the screen in 2001's war epic Black Hawk Down, with a critically acclaimed performance longside established Hollywood stars like Ewan McGregor and Josh Hartnett. This stellar performance led to his casting in the big screen adaptation of comic-book hero 'The Hulk' which is to be released in Australia in June and then in the Trojan war epic 'Troy', where he'll star alongside Brad Pitt as Hector. With these blockbusters in his future, Bana appears to be headed for great things. The 2003 V8 Supercar Championship Series kicks off week in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500. DJR embraces a supporting hand from Eric Bana in the lead-up to Adelaide. Known world wide for his acclaimed role in Black Hawk Down, Eric has landed officially his support to Dick Johnson Racing. A self confessed long time fan, Eric has followed the team unnoticed until now: "As a kid, Dick Johnson was my hero... and to now be part of undoubtedly Australia's premier motorsport team is an absolute honour" said Bana. His involvement in motorsport includes a drive in Targa Tasmania and Adelaide Classic. Eric's support should go a long way to lighten up the tense atmosphere in the DJR tent in preparation for the Clipsal 500. (Source: V8Central.com)

Grand Prix's Star Power

April 2, 2006
HOLLYWOOD stars get perks the rest of us can only dream of. But for Australian actor Eric Bana, meeting Michael Schumacher yesterday was something of a high-octane Oscar.
The car-loving star of the movie 'Munich' met the seven-times Formula One champion before qualifying sessions for today's Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Bana seemed enthralled to meet one of his racing idols, and the famously uptight Schumacher even managed a grin for the occasion.
Bana further aroused the envy of F1 fans when he was permitted that rarest of privileges: watching the morning practice sessions from the vantage point of Ferrari's garage on Pit Lane.
The actor's enthusiasm, however, contrasted with the attitude of many in Melbourne during the past few days.
Predictions were that crowds for the 11th grand prix to be held at Albert Park would be down on previous years, partly because of the city's Commonwealth Games hangover.
