War of the Worlds director Steven Spielberg is filming the historical thriller Munich in Malta for a December 23 release. The Universal film is set in the aftermath of the 1972 massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. The film recounts the dramatic story of the secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and assassinate 11 Palestinians believed to have planned the 1972 Munich massacre -- and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it.
Eric Bana 'Troy' stars as the Mossad agent charged with leading the band of specialists brought together for this operation. Daniel Craig, Geoffrey Rush, Mathieu Kassovitz, Hanns Zischler and Ciaran Hinds co-star.

'Daniel' tells us that Kurt Russell couldn't make the Sky High premiere because he had a call for three days of work on Munich as well.
Scooper 'CoprisLunaris' also reported in from Malta, where the production is currently shooting:
At the moment, Steven Spielberg is in Malta filming Munich. Some 2 hours ago I had the opportunity to capture the following pictures of the preparation of the set and a picture of Spielberg after half an hour of filming. |

Taking pictures is not easy as there is tight security. The place of filming is Valletta which is Malta's capital city. The signs of the surroundings have been changed to Greek hence I think they want the viewer to think it's Cyprus.
Some days ago I’ve taken some pictures of signs written in Jewish. The last picture of Spielberg is different from the others as it dark and I was far away so I took a video and I captures the best from the whole footage.
The first pictures shows cars and vans of that period, the second features the crew and security, the third shows the car that was filmed later on in the evening and the fourth is Spielberg.

What started out as Steven Spielberg's Untitled Munich Project has gone under a little trim here and a little trim there to be officially titled just plain 'Munich'. I like it. Short - and to the point. Plus, because it's so short, it'll probably cut engraving costs on all those Oscars.
The movie, an historical thriller set in the aftermath of the 1972 massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics, recounts the dramatic story of the secret Israeli squad assigned to track down and assassinate 11 Palestinians believed to have planned the 1972 Munich massacre -- and the personal toll this mission of revenge takes on the team and the man who led it. Inspired by actual events, the narrative is based on a number of sources, including the recollections of some who participated in the events themselves.
Eric Bana stars as the Mossad agent charged with leading the band of specialists brought together for this operation. The cast also includes Daniel Craig, Geoffrey Rush, Mathieu Kassovitz, Hanns Zischler and Ciaran Hinds.
Based on a script by Pulitzer Prize-winner Tony Kushner ('Angels in America'), the movie will be released by Universal Pictures in the United States and Canada on December 23, 2005. DreamWorks Pictures will handle the movie internationally. |
